THE Magazine For Mobile DJs
Investing For Success
In my last article for Pro Mobile (issue 29) I wrote about the Mobile DJ Market Place and explained how we as DJs are in control of our own destiny. Whilst we complain of not being able to earn a living wage doing something we love to do, we tolerate other DJs underselling and undervaluing what they do. Usually, but not always, this misunderstanding of what they are truly worth is down to a fear of competition and a lack of skills when it comes to marketing, sales and customer service.

You may be the greatest DJ in your area, but if you can't communicate that fact clearly and concisely to a prospective client you won't get the gig. If that person on the other end of the phone, or reading your website, can't appreciate your value then they will not pay your price. So rather than going out next month and buying yet another piece of kit, which you probably can't afford, or justify to your accountant, think about investing in yourself and your business potential.

Investing in training, business tools or networking with other industry professionals will soon pay real dividends. I speak from experience here. Purchasing books written by DJs for DJs, watching "how to" DVDs and attending seminars and workshops delivered by expert professionals, has helped me improve not only what I do as a DJ but it has also improved my annual turnover and net profit. Let's take a look at areas where you may want to look for help.
